Rehabilitation Services
For patients recuperating from injury or illness or learning to manage a chronic condition, TCH provides rehabilitation services in a variety of specialties. Inpatient, outpatient and, where appropriate, in-home services are available.
- Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation—828-883-5322. For those recovering from heart attack, heart surgery or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), this program offers medically supervised education, monitored exercise, fitness maintenance and counseling. Clinics on pacemaker function, cardiac stress testing and Holter monitoring are available. The program is certified by the State of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (Division of Facility Services) and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
- Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies—828-883-4967. Our licensed therapist and physical rehabilitation professionals help patients recover from or adjust to the results of injury, disease or debilitating conditions. Treatment focuses on recovery to the fullest extent. Services offered include: work-related rehabilitation; sports/orthopedic injury therapy; lymphedema therapy using the Vodder method of combined decongestive therapy, manual lymph drainage, and speech/language therapies for both adults and children.
Respiratory Therapy & Rehabilitation—828-883-5270 or 828-883-5322
Offering diagnostic tests, treatment and education, this program provides patients with all they need to breathe easier. Respiratory care practitioners provide nebulizer and IPPB (Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing) treatments, as well as inpatient and outpatient breathing consultations. Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Program—828-877-2887
The new Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Program provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and care to patients with pulmonary disease and sleep disorders. Examples of pulmonary diseases that are managed include asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, sarcoidosis, typical and atypical pneumonias and pulmonary complications of respiratory muscle weakness from neuromuscular diseases. This program is also dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of sleep pathology including breathing related sleep disorders, periodic limb movements in sleep, narcolepsy and insomnia. Mechanical (CPAP, BiPAP, ventilator), surgical, dental and pharmacologic therapies are available. Under the watchful care of Dr. James Kelling (a board certified pulmonologist and sleep physician), patients are evaluated and treated as inpatients or in a new outpatient center conveniently located on the hospital campus in Brevard. The outpatient center features two modern sleep rooms—complete with all the amenities of a home or hotel—to provide a quiet, safe, relaxing environment to conduct sleep studies.
Toxaway Health Center—828-862-6900
Serving residents of southwest Transylvania County and east Jackson County, the Transylvania Community Hospital Toxaway Health Center provides convenient access to primary care services. The Center's physician, Dr. Jay Buehler, is board certified in family practice and has a special interest in geriatrics. Call 862-6900 for an appointment.
Transitional Care Unit—828-883-5156
An in-hospital, skilled nursing facility, this unit provides interim care and rehabilitation. In its relaxed setting, patients are able to make a healthy transition from hospital to home.
