Three Transylvania Community Hospital Nurses Recognized for Excellence
BREVARD, N.C., Feb. 22, 2008—Three nurses at Transylvania Community Hospital have received state recognition as outstanding registered nurses.
Cathy Lasater, RN, on the Transitional Care Unit; Teri Redmond, RN, director of the Cardiac Rehab Program; and Maria Wilson, RN, at the Toxaway Health Center; have been selected to attend the 2008 North Carolina Institute for Nursing Excellence, which recognizes the dedication and commitment to the nursing profession in North Carolina.
Only 25 registered nurses in North Carolina are chosen each year for the prestigious institute. The rigorous and detailed nominations process includes an application with references from previous patients, supervisors, co-workers, other nurses and non-nurse colleagues.
“We are excited to recognize and support these nurses for their continued commitment to outstanding patient care and to nursing,” said Becky Carter, chief operating officer of Transylvania Community Hospital. “It really speaks to the commitment of our staff to quality, personal care that we have three of the best registered nurses in the state working right here at our hospital.”
The North Carolina Institute for Nursing Excellence sponsors a dynamic, weeklong conference and retreat to provide excellent nurses an opportunity to develop leadership skills and to expand their network of nursing support. This year’s institute will be held June 2-6 in Salter Path, N.C.
The purposes of the Institute for Nursing Excellence are to reward outstanding registered nurses, encourage outstanding nurses to remain in the profession, increase the leadership capacity of excellent nurses, enhance nurses’ abilities to be role models and attract others into the nursing profession.
To qualify, a nurse must be a registered nurse working full time in North Carolina, have five or more years of nursing experience and spend at least 50 percent of her time providing direct patient care.
The Institute for Nursing Excellence is provided by the N.C. Center for Nursing with funds from the N.C. General Assembly.
North Carolina was the first state to pass a nursing licensure law in 1903. In 1991, the state continued its dedication to the profession by becoming the first state to fund an agency that would assure adequate nursing resources to meet the healthcare needs of its citizens.
