Pisgah Surgical Adds New Surgeon
BREVARD, N.C., July 30, 2008—Residents of Transylvania County now have more access to general surgery services with the addition of a new fulltime surgeon at Pisgah Surgical Associates.
Transylvania Community Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Lori Timmerman, general surgeon, to Pisgah Surgical Associates, located on the hospital’s campus in Brevard.
Dr. Timmerman is an alumna of the University of Notre Dame, and earned her medical degree and completed residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she was chief surgical resident. She trained in the latest surgical techniques at the prestigious Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in Manhattan, N.Y., Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. as well as various hospitals in the greater Philadelphia area.
Dr. Timmerman has completed 1,600 successful surgical procedures and is board eligible in the practice of general surgery.
“Lori Timmerman is a good addition to the medical staff at Transylvania Community Hospital,” said Dr. Fred Bahnson, the hospital’s surgery section chair. “Her pleasant, easy-going personality should help her relate well to patients in our community.”
Attracting a new surgeon to Brevard speaks highly of the hospital’s commitment to quality and the appeal of the community, Dr. Bahnson said. “General surgery is a core healthcare service that is in high demand nationally,” he said. The national shortage of general surgeons has affected many communities in western North Carolina and beyond.
Dr. Timmerman will provide a wide range of surgical procedures at Transylvania Community Hospital including: minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery for the gallbladder, appendix, hernia and colon; comprehensive cancer diagnosis and surgical treatment; thyroid surgery; colonoscopy as well as in-office procedures including the removal of skin lesions, biopsies and spider vein treatment.
“I am excited to be working in a smaller community where you can get to know your patients better and make a real difference in their lives,” Dr. Timmerman said.
She is married to Dr. Daniel Timmerman, also a general surgeon, who recently joined a private medical practice in Hendersonville. The Timmermans have two young children—Brewer and Ella—both under the age of two.
Lori Timmerman will begin seeing patients on the Transylvania Community Hospital campus this week. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 862-6368.
