Mountain View Medical Center Adds Permanent Doctor
BREVARD, N.C., June 9, 2008—Residents of eastern Transylvania and western Henderson counties will have more access to primary healthcare thanks to the addition of a permanent physician at the Mountain View Medical Center in Penrose.
Transylvania Community Hospital is pleased to welcome William Nagel, M.D., as a full-time physician at the medical office located on Old Hendersonville Highway next to the Penrose post office.
With nearly 20 years experience in the medical field, Nagel relocated to western North Carolina from Charlotte, where he practiced family medicine for more than 12 years. He began seeing patients at Mountain View Medical Center on June 2.
“We are fortunate to have a physician of Dr. Nagel’s caliber and experience join our healthcare system,” said Bob Bednarek, president and CEO of Transylvania Community Hospital. “He will be able to provide much-needed access to primary medical care to residents in Pisgah Forest, Crab Creek and Little River as well as Etowah, Horse Shoe and Mills River. The central location of this practice just off U.S. 64 is only a 5- to 10-minute drive from these communities.”
Nagel graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed his family practice residency in Anderson, S.C. He specializes in family medicine and is a member of the American Board of Family Practice.
“I am excited to be working with patients at Mountain View Medical Center,” Nagel said. “Everyone here is so friendly. I’ve been visiting the area for nearly 20 years to enjoy the outdoor recreation and have fallen in love with the mountains.”
Dr. Jay Buehler, who practices family medicine at the Toxaway Health Center, worked with Nagel in South Carolina and rates his skills highly. “Dr. Nagel is a bright, hard-working physician who is very patient focused,” Buehler said. “His patients will appreciate his expertise and care.”
Nagel enjoys hiking and is an avid mountain biker. He has spent many weekends biking the trails at nearby DuPont State Forest. Nagel now lives in Pisgah Forest. He has two sons—both in college—at N.C. State University in Raleigh and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Transylvania Community Hospital has supported Mountain View Medical Center since last summer to ensure primary-care access for the area. Temporary physicians staffed the medical office until a permanent doctor was hired.
Nagel will continue to see existing Mountain View patients and is accepting new patients. Same-day appointments are often available. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 862-5748.
